What’s Up With Extended Warranties?
We’ve all gotten at least one call or voicemail by now.
“Hello…we’ve been trying to reach you regarding your extended warranty…”
And though these phone calls aren’t 100% viable, they at least bring awareness to an important issue at hand for car owners. If you’ve had enough time to ignore the call, delete the voicemail, and wonder about your extended warranty even is, you’re not alone. Understanding your car’s extended warranty can save you tons of cash in the long run.
Your extended warranty is something you usually opt into at the time of sale for your new vehicle. The typical lifetime of an extended warranty is 36,000 miles or three years, and it can cover anything from suspension to transmission. It can cost a little extra or may raise your payments a bit, but it can make up for it by saving you a lot of money in the long run. Typically, you’ll have signed up for either:
Bumper-to-bumper warranty. Covering anything from the front bumper to the back pumper, not including your tires or brakes.
Power-train warranty. Covering the big things under the hood, like engine and transmission.
Some car owners may have opted in for both. Checking what’s on your extended warranty will ensure you’re getting good use of that extra few dollars in that monthly payment you make. Then, if you do have a part that needs fixing, you’ll know whether or not to call your dealership about it for their support.
